Brews in Palm Beach

Whenever I go out of town, I make it a point to stop in at new restaurants or bars.  I think it’s the most fun component of traveling.  While in Palm Beach, Florida this past weekend, we had many opportune places to visit.  For this post, I’ve picked out my two favorites to share.

Burgers and Beer Joint
City Place, 550 S Rosemary Ave #158
West Palm Beach, Florida 33401

As we were walking to a restaurant that we originally planned on visiting, we saw this little gem.  Before getting a seat, we looked at the beer list and we were sold!  We visited around noon on a Saturday and the place was quiet so we sat up at the bar.  The bartender was friendly, accommodating, and a pleasure to be around.  She let us know that we stopped in during their Happy Hour so the draft beers were half off – YES!  I was really surprised to see my favorite – Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale – for only $5/pint.  While drinking, we ordered some small bites and they were all delicious.  The mini ahi tuna tacos and duck fat fries were delectable!  I wish we had a place like this around us – we would be there all the time!

Funky Buddha Brewery
1201 NE 38th Street
Oakland Park, Florida 33334

Although this brewery is about 45 min. from West Palm Beach, they do have a Boca Raton location, which is much closer.  The beers that Funky Buddha produces are TOP NOTCH.  Being from Florida, I’ve gotten the chance to try out many of their core and seasonal beers at local bars and restaurants.  They make some great beer and participate in amazing collaborations. The brewery was large with many TVs (of course the Dolphins being on the big screen).  In addition to their beers, they had a nice menu, as well as offerings of funky flavored popcorn – YUM!  I don’t often decide to do a flight but we had a long trip back home so I decided to just sample some.  I got the following beers and rated them as follows on Untappd (username: maecassel):
– Sweet Potato Casserole (one of my absolute favorites) = 5/5
– Undefeated Saison = 3.25/5
– Pineapple Pilsner = 2.75/5
– German Chocolate Cake = 4.25/5
Some of my other favorites from there are Hop Gun, Floridian Hefeweizen, French Toast Double Brown Ale, and Blueberry Cobbler.

I’d love to hear more favorite Palm Beach spots so feel free to comment!
